Pilot group opening soon. The first Tafseer group will start once our academic reviewer has approved the source list and the lesson notes. Join the waiting list below and we will contact you when the group opens.
Who it is for
Adults and older teenagers (16 and over), including parents. You should be able to read the Quran; if you cannot yet, you are welcome, and we will suggest joining Quran Reading alongside. Separate groups for women and men are offered where learners ask for them.
How sources are used
The teacher names the source for every explanation given in class. The proposed sources are recognised mainstream Sunni works, such as the tafsirs of al-Tabari, Ibn Kathir, al-Qurtubi and al-Nasafi, and contemporary works such as Tafsir al-Sadi and Maariful Quran. The academic reviewer approves the final list.
Each explanation is labelled so learners know what kind of statement it is:
- Established: what the scholars of tafsir agree on.
- Scholars differ: where respected scholars hold different views, presented fairly.
- Reflection: the teacher's own practical reflection, clearly marked as such.
The first term (TF1, 12 weeks)
One live group lesson of 60 to 75 minutes each week: recitation of the passage, meaning and vocabulary, explanation from the named sources, lessons for daily life, and questions. Learners complete a short weekly reflection sheet.
