Adab: Islam Social Manners

Islamic manners and character for daily life, in small, friendly online groups.

Who it is for

Children aged 7 to 9 (group A1) and 10 to 12 (group A2). Children are placed by age, not by a test, and do not need to read the Quran to join. Groups for teenagers and for adults and parents will follow later. From age 10, separate groups for girls and boys are offered where families ask for them.

What children learn in the first term

  • Being myself: Muslim, Afghan and living here
  • Saying salam and returning a greeting
  • Telling the truth, even when it is hard
  • Loving and helping my parents
  • Being clean, and the steps of wudu
  • Eating with good manners
  • Kind words, kindness to animals and saying thank you
  • What to do when I feel angry
  • Good behaviour at school and online

A typical lesson

Every lesson centres on one verse or hadith, cited with its reference and checked, followed by a story or a real-life situation ("Imagine that…"), a discussion or activity, and a small "adab challenge" for the week. In a group of six, every child is asked at least one question by name.

How parents are involved

After each lesson parents receive a short note about the topic and the week's challenge. Children record the challenge in their practice log and a parent signs it. At the end of the term each child presents a favourite page from their good-manners book.
